Osteopathic Clinical Training

After having acquired a deep comprehension of osteopathic philosophy, health sciences and theoretical foundation behind osteopathic techniques in Module I,  students are ready to progress to the following step in their DOMP studies. Prerequisites for participation in the Clinical Training are:

  • Mature students able to demonstrate proficiency (10+ years experience) in Acupuncture, Athletic Therapy, Yoga and Pilates Therapy, Massage Therapy, Naturopathy, Homeopathy, Nursing, Ayurvedic or Traditional Chinese Medicine will be considered for direct admission into Module II upon submission of their written request to admissions@lcocanada.com

How does the DOMP program work?

Module I – Online nine-course curriculum

Module II – Hands-on Clinical Training

In Module II students review and contextualize their online-based learning through clinical experience. Most effective manual osteopathy techniques are taught by practicing osteopathic manual practitioners. A low student-to-teacher ratio allows for a personal approach to each participant. Through individual tutoring sessions and open discussions, students are encouraged to develop their own treatment style applicable to the specifics of their practice.

By the completion of the intensive seven day session students acquire competency in a broad range of OMT skills and develop the ability to form an appropriate assessment and treatment plan. They gain an understanding of the mechanisms of action of manual therapeutic interventions and body’s response to the therapy.

Under the guidance of the experienced instructors students students will develop and practice competency in the palpatory and treatment skills necessary to identify a somatic dysfunction, formulate an appropriate treatment plan, and address a wide-range of musculoskeletal conditions using the following osteopathic techniques:

  • Soft tissue techniques
  • Myofascial release
  • Muscle energy technique (MET)
  • Facilitated positional release
  • Strain-Counterstrain
  • Balanced ligamentous tension (BLT)
  • Joint mobilization techniques
  • Cranial osteopathy for headaches & migraines
  • Lymphatic pump
  • Still technique
